Finding Christ in the Church

I grew up in a Christian family, and from a very young age I heard of Jesus Christ. One day I became quite convicted of my sins and realized my need to be saved. Something within me responded to the Lord’s great act of love in dying for me on the cross, and I spontaneously opened my heart to Him and asked Him to forgive me of my sins. From that point, I knew that He was real.

As I grew up, however, there was little progress in my experience of Christ. I had a vague realization that my life belonged to Christ and that my destiny was to be with Him forever, but there was no application of these facts to my daily living. I sensed that there must be more to experience.

In 1992, I went off to college where I eventually received a master’s degree in accounting. In college, I met some believers who met with the local church. I attended a weekly Bible study with them, and it soon became clear that these Christians knew Christ to an extent far beyond what I had imagined possible. Gradually, Christ became more real to me. The Bible was opened to me like never before, and my joy was made full. My whole life began to be centered on Christ, even to the point that I desired to give my whole life to Him to serve Him. In the local church, I have daily experienced the blessing of life promised in Psalm 133—“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity….For there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life forevermore.”
