I grew up in a Catholic home where I was taught to love and fear God. Although I grew up in this environment, it wasn’t until I was a senior in college that I received Jesus Christ and began to have a personal relationship with Him. For the first time in my life God and the Bible were new and living to me. It was soon thereafter that I also began to read the writings of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee. These writings have greatly enhanced my Christian life.
One instance was when some dear believers encouraged me to begin having a time with just me and God early in the morning to get words of life to supply me for my day. We read a chapter in one of Watchman Nee’s books entitled A Living Sacrifice. The name of the chapter was called “Early Rising.” Little did my dear friends know that because of my study habits, my best hours to study were between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. Because of the late hours, my tendency was to wake up later in the morning. But I wanted to establish a morning time with God so I was open to reading this chapter. In it I read verse after verse of so many men of God starting their day with God. And the most striking point to me was that these verses repeatedly said, “Early in the morning.”
So I prayed, “Okay Lord, you know how hard it is for me to get up early. I love to sleep! Please help me to study earlier so I can get to bed early to wake up to You.” Sure enough, the next morning and thereafter I have been waking up to the Lord every morning. I can’t guarantee that it’s “early” but reading that chapter helped me to put God as my first priority every morning.
