Greg and I married when we were forty-one years old. Both of us had gotten saved in our thirties and had searched for fellowship to match the joy of our salvation. We found that fellowship with the local church in Austin made our joy full. However, to maintain our joy in full, Greg needed healing from his flashbacks of the Vietnam War and I needed healing from chronic depression. As we continued in fellowship with the local church, Greg was introduced to the simple practice of calling on the name of the Lord. In this way, the flashbacks ceased. Greg has been washed in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. His flashbacks have ceased but his calling hasn’t. Now he calls on the Lord everyday just to stay clean and joyful.
I was healed of my chronic depression in a similar way. Through our fellowship with the local church in Austin I was brought into contact with the ministry of Witness Lee. Instead of listening to the radio or depressing thoughts I began listening to tapes and reading messages from Witness Lee’s life-study of the Bible. I did this daily while taking care of our six month old son and keeping house. As with Greg, after a period of about two years of maintaining this practice I was healed of my depression. My mind was renewed by God’s thoughts faithfully presented through Witness Lee’s ministry. Thank God for His thoughts. They surely are not our own.
That was ten years ago. Now, I’m happy to say, Witness Lee’s ministry can be heard daily on radio stations in many localities in the USA. I listen to a weekday program on KFIT and what a joy to know that many other housewives are listening with me.
Our healing has taken time. Were it not for the loving support of each other and the surrounding members of the Body of Christ meeting as the local church, Greg and I would still be fragmented individuals. The joy of our salvation that we sought and wanted to maintain has become the very foundation of our healing. We have now been married twelve years and our son Richard is eleven. We encourage him to call on the name of the Lord, to read the Bible, to know God’s thoughts and to pray every day to enjoy the fellowship in the Body of Christ. That is our story.
