In Awe of God’s Word

My personal experience with the local churches can be described in many ways, but I would firstly describe it as an ongoing journey of discovery through God’s Word.

In addition to this, there are a host of other aspects to the experience that I have had, such as:

1. Being warmly shepherded throughout my life from an early age, through every stage

2. Enjoying door to door, campus gospel, college fellowship

3. First-hand fellowship with Christians from hundreds of cities all over the earth

4. Working with youth of all ages for the past fifteen years

5. Being richly blessed with a wife and extended family who love the Lord Jesus

6. Being helped to have a daily walk with the Lord while in a professional career

7. Seeing hundreds of prayers answered by the Lord in His doings all over the earth

8. Being trained faithfully to bear responsibility for the Lord

9. Being regularly encouraged to stay in the Christian race with assurance, in spite of personal failures

10. Having older ones around as patterns to follow in being given to the Lord in service

I would say again that the defining element of my Christian life has always been the unfolding revelation of the Holy Scriptures. That has been a beacon of light before me more and more for the past twenty-six years.

Most recently I have been awestruck by the expounding of the Bible in Witness Lee’s Life Study of Genesis. I have been working my way through these audio tapes slowly for the past two years. I had also taken the same slow trip through his book The Experience of Life ten years ago. In both of these cases, I believe the Lord was having me go slowly so that I might experience in my own life the very truths which were being unfolded before my eyes in the ministry of God’s Word. This has been an immeasurable help to my growth and understanding. The whole Bible has begun to be seen in a coherent, logical, and purposeful view, giving meaning and sense of destiny which is more than reassuring. Eventually, I have been helped to see that the truths in the Bible aren’t just meant to build me up personally, but even more are to build me up with all believers.
